The Manager Kicked Me Out of Her “Premium” Section—She Didn’t Know I Owned the Entire Company

Marcus came to a halt, shifting his gaze from Daniel over to Vanessa. A subtle shift crossed his features.

Daniel picked up on it immediately, realizing Marcus had recognized him while Vanessa remained entirely clueless.

“Mr. Mercer?” she asked again.

At last, Daniel raised his eyes. “Yes?”

Folding her arms tightly across her chest, Vanessa declared, “I have no idea what you’re trying to prove here, but security has arrived.”

Jerking his chin toward Marcus, Daniel said, “That’s completely fine.”

Swallowing hard, Marcus managed, “Sir…”

In a sharp tone, Vanessa ordered, “Escort him out.”

Marcus stood his ground.

Narrowing her eyes, Vanessa pressed, “Marcus?”

Looking deeply uncomfortable, the security officer spoke up, “Ma’am, I really think we need to wait.”

“For what?”

Before Marcus could reply, the restaurant’s main entrance swung open. A woman dressed in a charcoal business suit stepped inside, clutching a slim leather portfolio. Right behind her walked a man Daniel knew very well: Richard Hale, the general counsel for Bellmont Hospitality.

Instantly, Vanessa’s smile vanished.

Walking straight toward booth seventeen without so much as a glance at Vanessa, Richard locked eyes with Daniel. “Mr. Mercer.”

Nodding, Daniel replied, “Richard.”

With wide eyes, Vanessa gasped, “Mr. Hale?”

Turning her way at last, Richard responded, “Ms. Cole.”

Straightening up instantly, she breathed, “Thank goodness you’ve arrived. I was just dealing with a very disruptive customer.”

Casting a quick look at Daniel before returning his gaze to Vanessa, Richard asked, “A customer?”

“Yes.”

“Are you entirely certain?”

Letting out a nervous laugh, Vanessa insisted, “Of course. He’s refusing to leave.”

Opening the folder, Richard stated, “I see.”

Quietly, Daniel continued slicing another piece of chicken for Sophie.

Laying several documents out on the tabletop, Richard announced, “Mr. Mercer, the preliminary audit has concluded.”

Staring at him, Vanessa echoed, “Mr. Mercer?”

Daniel kept silent.

“We reviewed the past six months of guest complaints, staff reports, security logs, table assignments, reservation records, and disciplinary actions,” Richard proceeded.

Slowly, all the color drained from Vanessa’s face.

Flipping a page, Richard reported, “We uncovered forty-three separate complaints regarding discriminatory treatment.”

A heavy silence settled over them.

Glancing at Sophie, Daniel saw she was still busy with her crayons.

“Furthermore,” Richard continued, “twenty-one staff members stated they were instructed to prioritize affluent-looking guests.”

Shaking her head vigorously, Vanessa protested, “That is entirely false.”

Without arguing, Richard simply turned another page. “We also identified eight employees who faced disciplinary write-ups simply for assisting patrons you personally labeled as ‘low-value.’”

Her breathing shifting, Vanessa muttered, “That doesn’t prove anything.”

Looking straight at her, Richard replied, “There’s more.”

Finally breaking his silence, Daniel said, “Richard.”

“Yes?”

“Not in front of my daughter.”

Instantly, Richard snapped the folder shut. “Of course.”

Fixing his gaze on Vanessa, Daniel gave her an ultimatum. “You have two choices.”

Staring back in disbelief, she asked, “What choices?”

“You can explain what happened truthfully…” He paused for a moment. “…or you can let the records speak for themselves.”

All of Vanessa’s bravado completely evaporated. Glancing around the dining room, she noticed several staff members watching. A few had already pieced together what was happening, with one nearby waitress pressing a hand over her mouth, while another whispered to a colleague, “That’s him.”

Catching the whisper, Vanessa looked back at Daniel with a tremor in her voice, “Who are you?”

Slowly rising to his feet, Daniel instructed, “Sophie, sweetheart, pack away your crayons.”

Looking puzzled, Sophie asked, “Why?”

“Because we’re heading home.”

She began dropping the crayons back into their box.

Fixing her gaze on him once more, Vanessa demanded, “Who are you?”

Picking up his jacket, Daniel replied, “My name is Daniel Mercer.”

Vanessa froze dead in her tracks.

From beside him, Richard added softly, “He owns Bellmont Hospitality.”

Not a single soul uttered a word. The entire restaurant felt suffocated by absolute silence.

Turning pale, Vanessa whispered, “No…”

Without raising his voice, Daniel noted, “You were right about one thing.”

Swallowing hard, Vanessa asked, “What?”

“This section is indeed reserved for premium guests.” He swept his gaze across the dining room. “But you overlooked something crucial.”

Extending a hand toward Sophie, Daniel declared, “My daughter is a premium guest.”

Looking up from her box, Sophie blinked.

With a warm smile, Daniel told her, “Not because of the wealth her father possesses.” He paused briefly. “But because every single guest deserves to be treated with dignity.”

Unable to find her voice, Vanessa stood paralyzed.

Opening his folder once more, Richard stated, “Mr. Mercer, there is one final matter.”

Looking over, Daniel asked, “What is it?”

Handing over a paper, Richard explained, “The staff member who anonymously reported Ms. Cole’s conduct has provided video evidence.”

Scanning the first page and then the second, Daniel’s expression turned grim. “Where is this employee?”

Looking toward the kitchen area, a young waitress took a tentative step forward, her hands visibly trembling.

“Mr. Mercer?”

Recognizing her instantly, Daniel said, “Emily?”

Nodding, she replied, “I wasn’t sure if I should tell anyone.”

Lowering the paperwork, Daniel assured her, “You did the right thing.”

Glancing nervously at Vanessa, Emily explained, “She instructed us to keep our service brief whenever we served guests who didn’t appear wealthy.”

Lashing out, Vanessa snapped, “That is a complete lie!”

Finching at the outburst, Emily stepped back.

Swiftly, Daniel positioned himself between them. “That’s enough.”

Though spoken quietly, his tone commanded the entire restaurant, instantly silencing Vanessa.

Turning his attention to Emily, Daniel said, “Thank you for having the courage to speak up.”

With tears welling in her eyes, Emily confessed, “I was terrified I’d lose my job.”

Giving her a reassuring nod, Daniel promised, “You won’t.”

Staring in disbelief, Vanessa argued, “You can’t possibly fire me over this.”

Glancing at Richard, Daniel waited for confirmation.

Calmly, Richard replied, “Actually, he most certainly can.”

Returning his focus to Vanessa, Daniel concluded, “You were given every opportunity to give your side of the story.”

Her tone turning desperate, Vanessa pleaded, “Please.”

Pausing for a moment—long enough for Vanessa to mistakenly hope for mercy—Daniel stated quietly, “Effective immediately, you are relieved of your duties as general manager of Bellmont House.”

Gasping, Vanessa stammered, “But—”

“Your access to all company systems is suspended pending a thorough final investigation.”

Shaking her head frantically, she protested, “You can’t do this in front of everybody.”

Looking straight into her eyes, Daniel replied, “You chose to do it in front of my daughter.”

Those words struck harder than any blow. Slowly, Vanessa cast her eyes downward.

Quietly slipping her hand into his, Sophie asked, “Daddy?”

Looking down, Daniel answered, “Yes?”

“Can we go now?”

Offering a gentle smile, Daniel said, “Yes, sweetheart.”

As they made their way toward the exit, Vanessa remained rooted to the spot. Pausing just before the doors, Daniel turned back.

“Vanessa.”

Lifting her head, she answered, “Yes?”

“There is one last thing.” He gestured toward the dining room. “Tomorrow morning, every employee here will receive a direct message from corporate.”

Swallowing hard, Vanessa asked, “What kind of message?”

Looking toward Emily, Daniel answered, “It will remind them that Bellmont Hospitality does not gauge a person’s worth by their clothing, their vehicle, their reservation, or their bank account.” Then, shifting his eyes back to Vanessa, he added, “And it will outline the reasons why your position has been terminated.”

Blazing with sudden fury, Vanessa spat, “You’re destroying my career.”

Shaking his head, Daniel replied, “No.” Taking Sophie’s hand once more, he finished, “Your own decisions did that.”

With that, he walked out the door.
